Questions, answered
What is it?
Targeted muscle-relaxing injections using Botulinum Toxin, commonly known as Botox, in small doses to gently relax overactive facial muscles that cause fine lines and dynamic wrinkles. By reducing repetitive muscle movement, these injections soften existing lines while helping prevent new ones, all without compromising your natural expression.
How does it work?
The treatment works by partially blocking the nerve signals to specific muscles, allowing them to relax. This reduced muscle activity decreases skin creasing, smooths fine lines, and can even provide a subtle lift in some areas. Over time, this helps the skin look more rested and refreshed while supporting your natural facial movement.
What areas can be treated?
Frown lines (between the brows); horizontal forehead lines; crow's feet; brow lift; bunny nose lines; nostril flaring; hooked nose appearance; gummy smile; drooping mouth corners; horizontal upper lip crease; vertical upper lip lines; pebble chin; stringy neck. Pricing starts at £250 for one area, with additional areas added in £50 increments per area — 1 area (e.g. frown) £250; 2 areas (frown + forehead) £300; 3 areas (frown + forehead + crow's feet) £350. This includes an adjustment at 2 weeks if needed.
How many treatments do I need?
One treatment will give results that last approximately 3 months. Full effects are usually visible by Day 14. In some cases, adjustments may be required between Day 14–21 to ensure the muscle fibres remain balanced and the results stay natural. Repeat treatments every 3–6 months help maintain the effect over time.
What results can I expect?
Smoother skin; softer, more relaxed facial expressions; and a refreshed, natural appearance that preserves your movement. Existing facial asymmetry can often be improved with treatment, though results may not completely correct pre-existing unevenness.
Is treatment painful?
Mild discomfort is normal but usually well-tolerated. Ice or a topical numbing cream can be applied if needed.
What is the recovery time?
Minimal. Most patients resume normal activities immediately. Avoid rubbing the treated area or strenuous activity for 48 hours.
What are the side effects or risks?
Overall, Botox is very well-tolerated. While risks cannot be completely eliminated, they are greatly reduced through the expert techniques and precautions our team uses to ensure safe, natural-looking results. Common side effects may include mild redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, and temporary headache. Uncommon effects can include a feeling of heaviness in the forehead, slight drooping of the eyebrows or eyelids, or blurred vision. Rare reactions may include localised infection, allergic sensitivity, or other very uncommon medical events.
Can it be reversed?
Officially, Botox cannot be reversed, but its effects are temporary, gradually wearing off over 3–6 months. Around 95% of patients regain full muscle activity by 3 months. Some studies suggest that the process may be slightly accelerated with repeated local injections of bacteriostatic saline, but this is rarely needed in routine practice.
Is it safe for everyone?
Botox is very safe when administered by an experienced clinician, though no treatment is entirely without risk. Botox has a long history of medical use: in 1822, German physician Justinus Kerner first suggested it for treating excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and today it is widely used for both medical and cosmetic purposes. Treatment should be avoided if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding; are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g. gentamicin); have a neurological condition affecting nerves or muscles (e.g. myasthenia gravis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome), or have recently had general anaesthesia; or have a known allergy to botulinum toxin, egg, or human albumin. If you are unsure whether Botox is suitable for you, please contact us ahead of your appointment — we're happy to answer any questions.
What should I do before my treatment?
Remove make-up and arrive with clean skin. Avoid blood-thinning supplements (such as Ginkgo Biloba, Omega-3, Vitamin E, or high-dose aspirin) for at least 5–7 days before treatment, as they can slightly increase the risk of bruising. Do not stop any prescribed medications from your GP. Inform your clinician of medical conditions, prior Botox treatments, or recent infections. Ensure your last Botox or muscle-relaxing injection was at least 3 months ago.
What should I do after treatment?
Keep the treated area clean and dry. Exercise treated muscles gently by frowning, raising eyebrows, and smiling on Day 1 to speed up results by 24 hours. Take zinc supplements once daily for 72 hours after treatment to strengthen results. Avoid vigorous exercise, extreme temperatures, alcohol, and NSAIDs for 48 hours. Avoid rubbing, massaging, or other facial treatments for 7 days. If you notice any signs of sensitivity, contact the clinic. For allergic reactions or severe symptoms, seek emergency care immediately.
