Subtle enhancements to help you get ready at Dr. Miriam A’s Skin Clinic in East London.

When preparing for a big event—whether it’s a wedding, a milestone birthday, or a long-awaited holiday—it’s not just about the outfit. For many of our patients, the key to feeling their very best self is also clear, healthy, radiant skin.

Whether you’ve been planning something special for months or there’s been a last minute, must-look-my-best-in-two-weeks addition to your diary, with some thoughtful planning, and smart but subtle enhancements, at Dr. Miriam A, we can ensure that you look and feel your absolute best.

4 to 6 months to prep: laying the foundations

If you’re lucky enough to have 6 months to prepare, you’ve got time to focus on both structural enhancements and overall skin regeneration. This is your opportunity to invest in treatments that offer long-term benefits while keeping your look natural and refreshed.

  1. Strategic Botox for longevity

Botox is the most effective way to soften fine lines and wrinkles, especially in areas such as the forehead, crow’s feet, and frown lines. Done twice a year, it gives your skin 6 months off from damage caused by intense expression lines.

Botox not only reduces visible signs of aging but can also lift the tissues (raising the brows and opening the eyes to give a more refreshed look), whilst slowing collagen destruction over time. This means smoother skin not just for your event but for months—and even years—down the line.

Timing ⏰:

  • Botox timing for an event should be 1 month prior – this allows enough time for your initial treatment and any adjustments at 2 weeks to fully develop in time for your big day.
  • Ideally, you want to try botox approximately 5-6 months before any important event. This allows you to experience your first treatment to ensure you are happy with (I think I’ve only met 2 people in 10 years who decided botox wasn’t for them, but you could be that person, so give yourself time).
  1. Smart use of fillers provides structural balance

Anyone who knows me, also knows that I only use dermal fillers sparingly and I use them only to replace the loss of bone mass that we see with age.

For a true refresh, consider subtle filler treatments to lift and define. A touch of filler in the cheeks or at the angle of the jawline can work wonders. These strategic placements gently lift the tissues of your face, redefining your jawline and giving you a naturally sculpted appearance. Done well, these treatments won’t change your features—they’ll simply enhance your own beauty, and their effects can last for years.

This method avoids the swollen pillow-face look that gives dermal fillers a bad name.

Timing ⏰:

  • Ideally, prior to 2 months before event day.
  • At the latest, can be done 1 month before event.
  1. Prioritise Skin Regeneration

This is the perfect time to focus on regenerating your skin for long-lasting health. Regenerative treatments not only restore the natural glow of skin, but also improve its resilience and elasticity, ensuring that it looks its best by the time the big day arrives.

Polynucleotides regenerate your collagen by stimulating fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen production. Collagen is the building block of our skin, but sadly, it decreases over time. Starting in our late twenties, we lose collagen at a rate of 1% per year, with a significant decline of 30% during peri-and menopause. After this period, the loss stabilises to 2% annually.

Microneedling is also ideal when it comes to targeting skin regeneration. A treatment that stimulates the skin to rebuild itself, minimally invasive, it increases collagen and elastin production, reduces the size of large pores and fine lines, balances pigment and helps to settle acne and rosacea.

At Dr. Miriam A, we like to think of collagen as a “bank account.” The earlier you start making deposits into your collagen reserves, the better prepared you’ll be to handle future losses. If you can commit to building those reserves while your fibroblasts are more reactive and receptive to collagen production, your skin should be able to better withstand the process of ageing.

Timing ⏰:

  • Polynucleotides, at least 5 months prior to event (need 3-4 sessions timed approx 10 days apart, then results show up over 3 months).
  • Microneedling, at least 8 months prior to event (need 4 sessions timed approx 6 weeks apart).

Two weeks out: fine-tuning the details

If you’re closer to your event, don’t worry—there’s still time to get your skin looking its very best. At this stage, we try to focus on treatments that provide immediate yet subtle results without needing any downtime.

  1. Supercharge skin with injectable hydration

It’s no secret that hydration is the key to plumper, firmer, healthier-looking skin and this is where skin boosters come in. These highly purified, hyaluronic acid-based injectables flood your skin with long-term moisture from within to instantly plump and restore glow. While Profhilo has been the gold standard in skin boosters for years, there’s now a next-level option, Hydro Deluxe which offers all the benefits of traditional boosters—deep moisturisation, improved elasticity, and a radiant glow—but takes it a step further with the addition of collagen-boosting calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA).

A naturally occurring mineral, CaHA strengthens the structure of skin boosters by enhancing their ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. The result? A powerful, long-lasting “holy trinity” effect:

  • Hyaluronic Acid: Provides an immediate hydrating effect.
  • CaHA: Stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin for firm, youthful skin.
  • Amino Acids: Nourish fibroblasts to maintain collagen stimulation over time.

Unlike fillers and Botox, which can noticeably change your facial appearance or expression, skin boosters specifically improve the quality of your skin through hydration. What we particularly like about Hydro Deluxe is that its CaHA content ensures your skin’s natural collagen production is supported, meaning results last even longer than traditional skin boosters.

The best part is that Hydro Deluxe continues to stimulate collagen and elastin production long after treatment so your skin will continue to look its best in the months ahead.

Timing ⏰:

  • Ideally 2 weeks prior to event.
  • Can be up to 1 week prior.
  1. Last-minute Botox touch-ups

Botox can still work its magic within a short timeframe. Subtle tweaks can refine your appearance, ensuring a smooth and polished look without appearing overdone. Book at least two weeks before your event to give the treatment time to fully settle.

Timing ⏰:

  • Ideally 2 weeks prior to event.
